Abbeyfield House, Regency Mews, was purpose built in 1998, situated in mature landscaped gardens in the Dringhouses area of York.
There are 21 ensuite studio rooms with mini kitchens on each floor. A lift between floors allows easy access throughout the house. We have a respite room which is available for short breaks and also doubles up for family and friends who wish to stay over. There are two assisted bathrooms and a laundry room with washers and dryers for residents to use.
We also have an on site domiciliary care service to help with personal care needs such as bathing, getting dressed, medication and help with laundry and domestic jobs. This is not included in the monthly cost, but is charged separately.
The house has a lovely ground floor beauty room which is used by mobile hairdressers, chiropodists, nail technicians and a volunteer reflexologist. Our gardens are landscaped with quiet sitting areas, many mature trees and a flat access path around the building.
The local library offers a home delivery service for those residents who are unable to get to the library. We also have computers available for anyone to use.
The historic centre of York is 2.5 miles from the house. There are a number of bus routes nearby giving access to the city centre and the railway station. There are also bus links to the Acomb area of York and also Leeds. We are close by many convenience stores, supermarkets and pubs.
We have various activities in the house: a weekly chair exercise class, coffee mornings, dominoes, film afternoons and other volunteer led activities. We also have regular communion visits by the local churches.
From time to time, we have visiting musical groups, singers and speakers. We also have a PAT dog which the residents enjoy seeing.
There are occasional outings to the theatre and sometimes we are able to organise a trip further afield. We have a summer strawberry fair, Christmas events and poetry reading afternoons.

I am very happy living here and I know I made the right decision to come to Abbeyfield. All staff are kind and very respectful towards me and I very much appreciate that. The meals served are always tasty, well presented and served in a professional and dignified manner. Mealtime is something that I look forward to and the dining area is always very clean and tidy. What I really like about the home is the fact that if I need help it is always available, but if I want quiet time then that is fully respected. I have run residential care in the past and this place is top notch !
Shirley, Resident at Abbeyfield House
Abbeyfield is a very nice place to live, and I feel very fortunate to be here. I love my room and get so much pleasure from watching the wildlife through my window. Although I live independently every contact I have with management and all staff members has been met with kindness and respect. The staff look out for me, and this makes me feel safe and happy. I really cannot imagine how anybody would not be happy here.
Alison, Resident
